Started singing at five, piano lessons at six. In third grade at the school talent show, Rex showed up and played Pipeline and I had found the most wonderful instrument in the world. I had never really seen an electric guitar before...but my Mother wouldn't pay for it since she knew I wouldn't stick with it.
Built my first guitar out of pine wood. It looked like a cigar box with a neck. I stuck a door in the back to so I could stuff in a microphone. The tuners were wood screws and I used a spool of wire for strings.
Managed to save up $35 by age sixteen and bought a white no-name guitar that someone had enameled. I would prop myself up in a corner of my room and play until I would nod out, with my fingers still going. I lost more of my friends. I started so late that I knew I had to practice twelve hours per day.
